Hit up the happiness quota!

Remember that old saying ‘the best things in life are free’ ?  Well it seems they really are, if we just take the time to look around us and appreciate the small and simple things in life.

So here are a few quick and easy ways to hit up your happiness quota. Try it!

Daily doses of joy

You can find real pleasure in everyday things.  Fresh sheets, a sensually showered body (yours or someone else’s), walking the dog in the morning breeze, a smile, a kiss, that song that speaks to you in the moment, the first sip of a perfect coffee and feeling sunlight warm your skin.

Taking a moment to notice and appreciate the small things can immediately lift your mood.

Notice Nature

You don’t have to step outside to notice nature.  You can experience the benefits of nature in your surroundings just paying attention more consciously.  Appreciate the colours or smell of a houseplant, a view from your window, the way sunlight falls across your room.  Nature has the power to lift your mood, reduce anxiety, help the brain to focus and unleash creativity.

That’s a potent cocktail of benefits and it is all around us.

 Communicate and Connect

Connection really is the currency of wellness.  Humans thrive on connection and contact with others.  Our ability to communicate and create healthy relationships has a massive impact on our self worth and how confident we feel in many other areas of life.  Reach out to someone every day.  Remember the next conversation you strike up could lead to that legendary friendship or the best love affair you were least expecting.

Desire without destruction

Desire is a powerful force and it shouldn’t be seen as a negative one.  Sometimes we are told that it is wrong to want more but it really depends what you want more of and why.  Desire can often be the prompt we need to guide us to better things, a desire to improve our health, our fitness levels, our environment or relationships.  We can desire knowledge and want to help others.  The key is to use our desires in a positive not destructive way.  Embracing desire can lead to a happy and balanced life when it is embraced with good intentions.  So if you feel desire to spend more time with friends and family and more time for the activities that lift your energy levels, allow that force to help you create an abundant, healthy, happy life.
